Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish feed him for a lifetime. The meaning behind this adage is at the heart of the Holiday Ranch philosophy. This is a universal principal that we believe applies to children, adults, horses and dogs and probably most of Gods creations. When someone young or old is taught solid fundamentals of practical horsemanship their only limit is their own aspirations regardless of the riding discipline they peruse. Horses also benefit greatly from this basic principle, when solid practical basic skills are engrained, things like standing for the farrier, loading, and opening gates are merely a simple application of the learned skills.
I have been a horsewoman for as long as I can remember. What started out as playing with ponies from the age of four turned into a professional career training horses now spanning more than thirty years. I have experience training and showing Western Pleasure, Halter, Hunt Seat and Judging horse shows, but my passion and specialty is the Ranch/Handy horse discipline. In the process of starting colts and training horses, teaching riding lessons became a necessity to help clients that I was training horses for, but as time went on, the more I realized how much I enjoyed sharing my passion for horses with the young and older alike. My methods are a culmination of a lifetime of hands-on experience, endless hours observing accomplished horsemen and horses themselves. I do not believe in quick-fix training or shortcuts, while they may seem to show promise they do not produce long-lasting results. Horsemanship should be practical and sustainable, not magic tricks. Learning to understand horses also teaches us much about ourselves.
